I don't want to spoil anymore of the book, but if you have read titles such as Soldier X or Fallen Angels, you'll know what I mean when I say this book gets really emotional, and I found myself tearing up during several parts of the narration. What was one of the most memorable moments of Battle Scars?Īfter the book sets out to immerse you in the lifestyle and psyche of the marines deployed in Afghanistan, the book diverts into the personal relationships between the soldiers and their own thoughts and struggles, sealing them in the iron-clad brotherhood that develops between "battle buddies," in a warzone. I really liked the character Sergeant Deke, as that's the kind of guy I hope to be, in terms of being able to project a winning attitude into others, even when they think there's no hope left.

Salkin really knew how to approach the subject. I'm shipping off to train to be a Combat Medic in the US Army in just a few weeks so this book really hit home. I'm relatively new to audiobooks, but this was one of the most amazing books I've read or listened to in my entire life. Where does Battle Scars rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far? One of the most immersive and heatfelt war books
